Cross country: SLV shines in Hawaii
The San Lorenzo Valley High School cross country team swept the field at the Kamehameha Invitational at the University of Hawaii on Sept. 10 on the big island of Hawaii.
SLV’s Nick Hicks won the boys three mile race with a time of 16 minutes, 16 seconds and Cougar girl Anna Maxwell took home first in the girls race winning by more than 40 seconds with a time of 17:54.
Both the boys and girls teams won titles as the Cougars spent five days on the island, September 7 through 12.
Girls Volleyball
The St. Francis Sharks bested visiting Scotts Valley, 26-24, 25-21, 18-25, 25-21, in both teams’ Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League opener on Sept. 13.
Maggie Witzig led the Falcons on offense with 11 kills, Emily Payne added eight kills. Christina Vasu-Cramer added five blocks for the Falcons in the loss.
SV tops SLV in girls golf
The Falcons beat host San Lorenzo Valley High School 194-229 in SCCAL play at Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Natalie Ifland shot 6-over-par 32 through seven holes and Jemina Cheyiam, Tessa Cados, Jelena Cheyiam and Heidi Riedel helped the Falcons earn the win.
SLV had three low scorers, Kendall O’Conner, Hailey Nolan and Jordyn Duncan who all shot 44. Geena Phillips and Catrina Tellez rounded out their troop and shot 48 and 50 respectively.
SLV plays next against Soquel at DeLaveaga Golf Course on Thursday, Sept. 15 after press time. Scotts Valley will host Santa Cruz at Valley Gardens Golf Course the same day after press time.
