Scotts Valley heads to senior bocce games
The California State Senior Games will include the sport of bocce for the first time in 2012 and the Scotts Valley Bocce Club will be competing in the inaugural event.
The competition will be held at Campo di Bocce in Livermore, March 11 through 17.
Scotts Valley’s team members include Paul Chapin, Dave Imwalle, Al Telles, Ken Gorny and Club President Tom Walsh.
The Senior’s Championship competition attracts seniors players, men and women, from five western states for competition in three major bocce events: men’s doubles Punto Raffa Volo, women’s doubles Punto Raffa Volo and four-player open bocce. Age groups ranging from 50 to 85-plus will compete at Campo di Bocce’s eight-court facility at 175 E. Vineyard Court in Livermore.
“We expect very tough competition since this event will be drawing some of the best Bocce players in the country,” Walsh said.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in nine different divisions, with 5-year age groups from 50-54 through 80-84.
