Falcon lacrosse avenges lone loss
The Scotts Valley High lacrosse team (13-1) defeated Aptos High 10-6 on Friday, April 27, to avenge its only loss of the season.
The Falcons jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter on two goals from Wesley Keonig and goals from Spencer Fogelquist and Bradley McClarnon and took a 7-4 lead into halftime after several scores from Collin Corbella.
Corbella led the Falcons with three goals, followed by Koenig and Fogelquist with two goals and two assists and McClarnon with two goals.
Mount Charlie rides Saturday
The 10th annual Mount Charlie Challenge is set for this Saturday, May 5 in Skypark in Scotts Valley. A barbecue, live concert and family activities are planned.
Beginning at 11 a.m., children can make crafts with local artists. Other artists will have booths selling their work. At noon, there will be a bike safety class, a bike obstacle course for boys and girls, a children’s bike ride around Skypark, and bicycle registration offered by Scotts Valley Police Department.
Admission is free, and a barbecue lunch costs $10. Beer and wine will be sold, and a raffle and silent auction will be held.
Mount Charlie Challenge is the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Hundreds of bicyclists participate in 100-mile, 100-kilometer and 50-kilometer rides to raise money for Scotts Valley’s public schools.

Old school-in school game on tap
San Lorenzo Valley High will host its annual “In School vs. Old School” basketball game Tuesday, May 8, at the high school, 7105 Highway 9, in Felton. The game begins at 6:30 p.m., and admission is $4 each for everyone.
Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase as a fundraiser for the school.
Basketball league wraps up
With the regular season winding down, the standings in the Mount Hermon Adult Recreational Basketball league are tightening up.
Each division has six teams, and the top four make the playoffs.
In Division 1, Roberts Army is in line for a playoff spot with a 7-2 record with one game remaining. Also in contention are Turbo Slay (6-3), Beard Up (5-4) and Charcoal (4-5).
In Division II, Allterra is 6-1, followed by Over-Hyped (4-3), Bring It (4-3) and Sabotage (4-3).
In Division III, Wreckless is 6-1, chased by SLV Hoopsters (5-2), Baron’s Boys (5-2) and Team Santa Cruz (2-5).
Spring adult softball heats up
Competition is heating up in the IOOF San Lorenzo Valley adult softball league this spring.
In the Co-ed Recreation A league, the Steelheads are 3-0 to start the season after obliterating IH Torture, 24-7, on Sunday, April 29.
In the B-league, the Vagabonds are on top of the standings with a 3-0 records, followed closely by the Bad News Beers at 2-0.
Play continues on Sundays at Michael Gray Field on Graham Hill Road in Felton.
The deadline to sign up for the summer leagues, both men’s and co-ed, is May 31.
