Local teenager wins volleyball title
Isabella Penichet Orsi of Boulder Creek won the California Beach Volleyball Association tournament at Main Beach in Santa Cruz on June 27 with her partner, Lily Justine of Chico.
Orsi, a graduate of Spring Hill School in Santa Cruz who will begin at Archbishop Mitty High School in the fall, also won the USA Beach Volleyball Tournament on June 2 at Main Beach with Justine. That tournament qualified the pair for the USA Nationals Tournament at Bradford Beach in Milwaukee, Wisc., on July 27 and 28.
Orsi completed eighth grade at Spring Hill with high honors in June.
 PAL football, cheer signups ongoing
Registration for Police Athletic League football in Scotts Valley continues until Oct. 1. However, an early-bird discount of $150 per child for football will end July 10. After that, the cost increases to $175 for football.
Children ages 5 to 14 may compete in the football program.
Cheer costs $60 per child.

 Adult softball league well under way
The San Lorenzo Valley IOOF summer softball league is in full swing. In the men’s A-league, the Flingers have a commanding lead with a 5-0 record. The Woodpeckers and Scarborough are both 2-2 on the season.
In the men’s B-league, Seam Splitters are in first with a 3-1 record, followed by Reason Construction and Sharks, which are both 2-2.
In the 11-team co-ed league, the Steelheads are 4-0, followed by Torture (3-1) and Mountain Mechanics (4-1). 
Games are played at Highlands Park in Ben Lomond during the week.
