Softball team qualifies for western nationals
The San Lorenzo Valley-based Mountain Dream 14-and-under competitive softball team qualified for the Western National Championships July 20 to 22 in San Diego.
The team walked in the Fourth of July parade in Boulder Creek and is completing fundraising efforts for the trip.

Santa Cruz Pony seeks volunteers
Santa Cruz Pony baseball league is hosting two tournaments — Colt, for players 15 and 16 years old, and Palomino, for 17- and 18-year-olds — from Friday, July 13, to July 27 at Harvey West Park in Santa Cruz.
Players in the Santa Cruz-based league live in the San Lorenzo Valley, Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz.
High school students can earn community service credit by volunteering to help with scorekeeping, snack bar service, field preparation and entrance gate staffing.

One-day baseball camp planned
A baseball assessment and camp for players 13 to 15 years old will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Santa Cruz High School’s baseball field on Weeks Avenue in Santa Cruz.
Participants in the one-day camp can expect to hone skills, be evaluated and receive a detailed written assessment from other players and coaches.
A scrimmage game will be played for fun, followed by a barbecue.
Cost is $30.
