Three-on-three tournament raises $400 for preschool
The Slam at the Dam three-on-three basketball tournament raised $431 for Children’s Center of San Lorenzo Valley on July 14. The tournament was played in Ben Lomond Park.
The Farmers, a team of Jordan Beck, Ben Beck, Kevin Krueger and Darcy McNee, won eight games to win the tournament. In second place were the Bear Slugs — Ryan Thompson, Clayton Conrad and Beau Thompson — and finishing third was team Ramrod, made up of Jared Payne, Josh Payne and Nick Lipperd.
The 10-team tournament included pool play and a double-elimination tournament bracket.
Organizer Matt O’Brien said butterscotch chocolate chip cookies made by Brad Lodge were a hit and sold out as part of the fundraiser.
Road race Sunday in Santa Cruz
The 40th annual Wharf to Wharf road race is Sunday, July 22, in Santa Cruz. The six-mile race starts at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and runners make their way south along East Cliff Driveto the finish line in the Capitola village.
The 15,000-person race sold out April 7.
