Falcon volleyball wins
The Scotts Valley High girls volleyball team defeated Santa Cruz High 3-1 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action Tuesday, Sept. 25.
Led by Lexi Stevens with 43 assists, Allison Twisselman with 27 digs, Maggie Witzig with 18 kills and Mikayla Fish with 16 kills, Scotts Valley defeated the Cardinals 27-25, 25-22, 19-25 and 27-25.
The team is 2-3 in league play after the victory.
Cougar runners head to Oregon
San Lorenzo Valley High’s cross country team is traveling to Oregon for the ninth annual Nike Pre-national Cross Country Meet in Portland on Saturday, Sept. 29.
The prestigious meet will include some of the top runners in the nation among 100 cross country teams and more than 3,000 runners.
As highest-ranked team in California for Division IV, the SLV girls team is among the top challengers, according to race organizers. The Cougar boys, ranked ninth in the state, will also run.
Head coach Rob Collins said a girls B team will travel to the Stanford Invitational this weekend, too.
Race donates cash to organizations
The 44th annual Race Thru the Redwoods and Felton Business Association donated $2,500 between the Scotts Valley High School Booster Club, Santa Cruz Track Team, Santa Cruz Cross Country Team and Felton Fire Department for helping with the annual race.
The Aug. 18 race in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park was deemed a success by race organizers.
