SLV alumnus named player of the week
Brook Carroll, a junior volleyball setter at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mont., was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Volleyball Setter of the Week for her play in two matches last week.
Carroll, a San Lorenzo Valley High School graduate from Felton, directed the Wildcats’ offense to two wins.
She averaged 8.6 assists and 2.8 digs in a five-set win over Baker College and a sweep of AIB College of Business.
In her first season as a Wildcat, Carroll is averaging 8.31 assists and 2.5 digs per game. She has 68 kills and 121 sets on the season for the 4-4 Wildcats.
 
Falcons advance in polo
The Scotts Valley girls water polo team defeated Harbor High School 5-3 in the first round of the Monterey Bay League Pacific Division playoffs on Tuesday, Oct. 30. Meredith Barton scored two goals and Hannah Freeman made 9 saves for the Falcons who played after press-time on Thursday, Nov. 1 in the second round.
 
SV volleyball advances
The No. 4 seeded Scotts Valley girls volleyball team beat No. 5 Santa Cruz High School 25-14, 25-20, 15-25, 25-22 to advance to the semi finals on Thursday, Nov. 1 against top-seeded Harbor.
Maggie Witzig led the way with eight kills and eight aces.
 
Pony baseball accepts coaching applications
Santa Cruz Pony Baseball has begun to accept applications from qualified coaches for the 2013 spring season.
Pony covers three division, 13-to-14-year-olds, 15 and 16 years old and 17-to-19 for players in Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley and the San Lorenzo Valley.
The 13-and 14-year-old Pony division will hold a parent and coaches meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 at Harvey West Clubhouse, 326 Evergreen Street in Santa Cruz.
