Sports Shorts: SLV claims cross country title

Cougars boys win league title
Allan Hetke finished second in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League and his team defeated Aptos High in a tiebreaker to capture the 2009 cross country league title.
After totaling the score of the top five runners for each team, the score was tied at 40. But SLV’s sixth runner finished before Aptos’s sixth runner, giving SLV the title.
The meet was at Toro Park in Watsonville on Thursday, Nov. 5.

SLV softball playoffs Sunday
Playoff matchups are set for Sunday, Nov. 8, in the San Lorenzo Valley IOOF adult softball league.
In the B-League, the first game pits the Coyotes against Monty’s Log Cabin at 10:45 a.m. at Michael Gray Field.
Both teams go into the game with 5-3 records. The winner will go on to play undefeated Icy Hot (8-0) in the championship game at noon.
In the A-league, Mt. Mechanics face the Vagabonds at 1:15 p.m. Both teams are 4-4. The winner will play for the championship against the Steelheads at 2:30 p.m.
