The San Lorenzo Valley varsity softball team defeated Live Oak High School of Morgan Hill, 2-1, in the first round of the Central Coast Section playoffs Wednesday, May 19.
The team will play Saturday, May 22, against Hillsdale High — game time hadn’t been determined as of press time.
In the game, pitcher Kendra Salangsang tossed six perfect innings before Live Oak put together a rally and scored.
In the bottom half of the seventh, after Michelle Hitt scored to tie the game, Kayla Campbell hit a grounder up the middle that scored Angie Hershberger from third for the win.
Falcons baseball shocked
The top-seeded Scotts Valley High baseball team fell to No. 16 Hillsdale, 8-7, after Hillsdale took the lead with five runs in the seventh inning on Wednesday, May 19. The Falcons rallied in the bottom half, but a Hillsdale outfielder made a diving catch of a line drive by Shane Carle with runners on second and third. Scotts Valley committed four errors on the day.
The loss knocked the Falcons from the CCS playoffs, and they finish the season 19-9.
SLV baseball falls after rally
The San Lorenzo Valley Cougars fell to Live Oak High School of Morgan Hill, 6-5, to end their season in the first round of the Central Coast Section playoffs on May 19.
The team battled back from a 5-0 deficit by scoring three runs in the fifth and two in the seventh, but Live Oak scored in the seventh for the win.
Tyler Gilbert took the loss, but was
3-for-4 at the plate for the Cougars.
Il Divas knock of undefeated Pizzazz
In a surprise upset, Il Divas of the Scotts Valley Bocce league knocked off the previously undefeated Team Pizzazz this week, 2-1.
Il Divas is made up of Melodee Melero, Jenny Grove, Renae Ammon, Dan Ammon, Jackie Strong, Troy Strong, Angela Franklin and Lisa Bustichi.
Pizzazz, captained by Steve Horlock, went 14-0 a season ago.
