Two Cougars players earn all-tourney honors
San Lorenzo Valley High girls basketball players Olivia Ambris and Sierra Clark were named to the Lady Cougar Classic All-Tournament team after helping the Cougars to the consolation championship.
After losing in the first round to Menlo, the eventual second-place finisher, the Cougars stormed back with three wins, including a 48-39 win over Alvarez on Saturday, Dec. 19, to clinch the fifth-place finish.
The team is 6-1 on the season.
Bethany hoops team struggles in preseason
The Bethany University men’s basketball team completed preseason play 1-11 after falling to Biola University, 79-58, on Saturday, Dec. 19.
Guard Jason Maples leads the team with 13.08 points per game.
The team will start California Pacific Conference play Jan. 7 at California State University Maritime.
The women’s team finished 2-9 in the preseason, led by Ashlee Sherman with 10.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. They will also open Cal Pac play at Maritime on Jan. 7.
Scotts Valley girls soccer caps preseason with win
The Scotts Valley High girls soccer team finished the preseason 4-2-1 after beating Notre Dame, 3-0, on Dec. 17. Emily Payne, Jordin Carlson and Keara McCullough scored for the Falcons, who will open Santa Cruz Coast Athletic league play Jan. 5 when they host St. Francis High at 3:30 p.m.
