Cougar softball takes third

Despite coming up just short as a team in last weekend’s Central Coast Section championships, four girls from the Scotts Valley High School varsity girls’ wrestling squad had strong showings and advanced to the statewide championship meet.

There’s a new vibe this year when it comes to the Scotts Valley High Girls Volleyball team. Maybe it has something to do with a new coaching staff. Maybe it’s the senior leadership of captains Natalia Locatelli, Megan and Mary Claire Lonhart (yes, they’re twins) who want to finish their Falcon careers “with a bang.” Whatever the case, if the pre-season results are any indication of what’s to come, the Falcons are poised to contend with the top teams in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League.

More than 500 law enforcement personnel will be running the Special Olympics’ Flame of Hope through Northern California from June 26 through June 28. The event is part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, a year round fundraising campaign that will culminate at the Special Olympics Northern California Summer games at UC Davis.
