High School sports year review

As the school year winds to a close, memories of the 2010-2011 sports year begin to fade as we begin to look forward to summer and to next years seasons. Though the last year is gone, there are a number of firsts, a collection of championships, and remnants of a year of success for both of our valleys. Here is a look back at what our local schools combined to accomplish this year.

Spring sports all league honors awarded

The 2010-2011 all league teams have been announced by the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League, many local athletes garnered top honors.

Locals set personal records at state meet

San Lorenzo Valley High School distance runners Cody Johnson, and Anna Maxwell, and Scotts Valley High School’s Vanessa Fraser each improved their personal records at the California Interscholastic State Track and Field meet at Buchanan High in Clovis on June 4 and 5.

San Lorenzo Valley High has another Central Coast Section champion: Freshman distance runner Anna Maxwell won the 3,200-meter run at Gilroy High to win her first CCS track and field championship May 25.

Nearly 300 non-inmates, made the daring swim from Alcatraz Island back to the East Beach finish line at the Presidio in San Francisco on May 22.
