California State Parks archaeologist Mark Hylkema will speak about the ancestral Ohlone tribe from the Ice Age to the present in an April 15 talk to benefit San Lorenzo Valley Museum.
Hylkema is working on a dig in Monterey County and has just unearthed bones of a juvenile Columbian mammoth. His talk, however, will be focused on the people who lived in the area of Santa Cruz, San Mateo, Santa Clara and San Francisco counties 12,000 years ago.
The talk will begin at 7 p.m. at Park Hall, 9370 Mill St., in Ben Lomond. Admission, which includes wine and a dessert bar, are $25 or $20 for students and museum members. Tickets can be bought at the SLV Museum, 12547 Highway 9, in Boulder Creek, at www.slvmuseum.com or at the door.
