San Lorenzo Valley High freshman Anna Maxwell and Scotts Valley High sophomore Vanessa Fraser will lead their respective teams at the California cross country state championships in Fresno on Saturday, Nov. 27.
San Lorenzo Valley is the top-ranked team in Division IV in the Central Coast Section and the eighth-ranked team in the state going into the state championship, according the rankings at dyestatcal.com. Maxwell is the second-ranked girl in the CCS.
Scotts Valley is unranked at the state level, but is led by Fraser, the third-ranked girl in the CCS. It is Scotts Valley’s first trip to the state championship as a team.
Serra High from San Juan Capistrano is the top-ranked girls team in Division IV.
The two teams qualified for the state meet by finishing first (San Lorenzo Valley) and second (Scotts Valley) in Division IV at the Central Coast Section meet on Nov. 13 at Toro Park. Maxwell won the race and Fraser finished second.
For the boys, Cody Johnson, who finished fifth in the CCS, and Landis MacMillan (sixth) will run for the Cougars.
