This weekend, student thespians from Scotts Valley High School and San Lorenzo Valley Middle School are offering patrons of the arts one final weekend to catch performances of Neil Simon’s “Rumors” and Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.”
‘Rumors’
Directed by Kendra Kannegaard, “Rumors,” by Neil Simon, is a fast-paced comedy full of “he said-she said” gossip, secrets, lies, and miscommunications.
As friends arrive at the home of Charlie and Myra Brock, they discover that the host has shot himself in the ear and the hostess is nowhere to be found.
In order to protect Charlie’s reputation, the friends must come up with a series of lies to fool the other guests and more importantly, the police.
The show stars Haley Powell, Ryan Khan, Evandra Ramirez, Matt Valencia, Max Chambers, Joshua Olsen, Sarah Johnson, Riley Buffington, Chris Arcarese, Jenny Johnston, Bonn Williams, Stryker Buffington, and Matthew Sibley along with about a dozen other dedicated crew members who came together to make the show happen.
The show will run Friday and Saturday evening at 7:30, with doors opening at 7 — rain or shine, power or no power.
Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for general and can be purchased at the door or online at www.showtix4u.com
(Parental guidance suggested for students under 13 due to some mature themes and language).
Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’
The San Lorenzo Valley Middle School Performing Arts Academy’s production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” heads into its final weekend at the SLVMS Dollhouse Theater in Felton.
Brianna Martin and Stoli Rohrkemper perform as Ariel, the mermaid longing to be human; Jack Calden and Emily Hackett portray Sebastian the crab; Jack Peddy and Aidan Callahan as Prince Eric; and Kristen Voelker, Natalia Duvernois, and Melodie Apollo as Ursula, the sea witch.
The show, which features songs from the 1989 film adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen tale, features 45 seventh and eighth grade students — along with one sixth grader — double cast to provide additional opportunities for students to perform.
This is Director Will Guilford’s 72nd production within the Santa Cruz County and his first time producing and directing “The Little Mermaid.”
Musical direction is being led by Ben Lomond local Karen Pajak-Stanley; costumes by Kim Pierini; set design by Dave Halper; and choreography by Shannon Kerr.
The show will be performed Friday and Saturday, with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets available at the door 30 minutes prior to the performance.
