The Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley presented a check for $19,500 to Scotts Valley Unified School District music teacher Beth Hollenbeck last week at a dinner to celebrate the success of the Music at Skypark summer concert series.
The money was given to the district with one stipulation: It must be spent to enhance the local schools’ music offerings.
The celebration dinner was held Nov. 9 at Bruno’s BBQ to formally transfer the money and to recognize sponsors and vendors from the four free concerts at Skypark in June, July, August and September.
Vendors sold food and drink and gave Kiwanis 60 percent of their proceeds. They included four local service clubs, Skov Winery, Santa Cruz Pizza Co., Baskin-Robbins, Mint, Dawgs and Scotts Valley Performing Arts.
Fifteen sponsors contributed, including two $2,500 sponsors — Green Waste Recovery and Small Business Consulting — which shared the banner space over the top of the stage.
Organization for the 2012 Music at Skypark series is soon to begin. Those who wish to get involved may attend a Kiwanis meeting or visit the group’s website. Members gather at 7 a.m. Wednesdays at Bruno’s Barbecue, 230-G Mount Hermon Road, in Scotts Valley.
