Danny Reber, a new executive director of Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce, in his office during an interview with our reporter last Tuesday.

The Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce and its Board of Directors selected Danny Reber as its new Executive Director last week.
After serving as president of the Chamber’s board for four years, and being a board member for seven, Reber assumed his new position as Executive Director on Wednesday, Jan. 28. With his new position comes the responsibility of organizing community events and building strong ties with local businesses.
“I put a lot into it when I was president and now in this position, having it to be my full-time job is just awesome,” Reber said.
Reber, 40, has lived in Scotts Valley since the third grade and has dedicated many hours to serving his community.
He was named “Scotts Valley Man of the Year” back in 2006, served as a past president of the Rotary Club, and is also the current Vice President of the Scotts Valley Water Board.
In addition, Reber is a husband to his wife Michelle Reber, who works as a Life Lab instructor for Vine Hill School, and father of two daughters, Maya and Arwen.
“The way I like to see it is, if the Chamber is at its best, I think it should be a focal point that brings together the best of our community,” Reber explained, “so there are some obvious things we’ve got to get the ball rolling on.”
The first thing on Reber’s agenda is organizing the Chamber’s annual Art and Wine Festival. He said that he is working on getting the Art and Wine committee together next week to discuss plans for the event.
Reber will also take part in arranging monthly Chamber mixers and ribbon-cutting ceremonies for new local businesses. The first ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated to take place on Thursday, Feb. 12 for I Love Boba.
“The other big one we do is the Community Awards Gala, which we usually do in the fall,” he said. “That’s where we name the Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Business of the Year.”
Reber’s says his previous experiences in marketing, leadership, management, and community service make him the perfect person for the role of building relationships between people and business in Scotts Valley.
“When businesses come together they are stronger as a group and that’s kind of what it’s about is people supporting people, and businesses supporting each other and helping to promote one another.”
