For the third time in his life, Bruce Barlow hit a hole-in-one at Valley Gardens Golf Course on Jan. 4.
Ten weeks after his second hole-in-one, Barlow teed up to the third hole at Valley Gardens and swung a flawless shot.
“It was perfect, it was unbelievable, right over the pin stick, rolled about three feet back, dropped in the cup, and you could hear yelling all the way around the golf course…” said Mark A. Johnson, President of Johnson Paving Inc. and witness to the shot. “There were other people watching and it was just great.”
Bob Chase, Valley Gardens’ head golf professional, said that Barlow was on his second round of golf when he used a nine iron to send the ball flying 108 yards toward its target at approximately 10:30 a.m.
“Some guys have all the luck,” he said.
Barlow’s friend and golf partner, Wayne Negro, witnessed the shot for the third time.
“He’s a legend in my mind,” Negro said. “I mean, I’ve played 2,000 holes, where’s my hole-in-one?”
Skill and luck were both factors in the brilliant shot Barlow explained.
“I don’t think anybody ever plans on a hole-in-one,” he said. “If they get one, it’s just a great bonus.”
