Clark

Vickie Clark has been promoted to chief business official of the Scotts Valley Unified School District, following the departure of Karen Jelcick several months ago.
Clark, a district employee since 2003, is responsible for the district’s budget, including maintenance and operations and now reports directly to Superintendent Penny Weaver and school trustees.
Clark said last week that the biggest challenge she and the district faces is the unknown related to state school funding. With the state budget in constant flux, it’s sometimes necessary to make budget plans without knowing how much money the district will actually have.
“I don’t like to bring (trustees and Weaver) some of the news I have to bring them, but they have to hear it,” Clark said last week.
Board president Larry Beaman wrote this about Clark to the Scotts Valley community:
Clark was selected from among nine applicants, according to board president Larry Beaman, who welcomed Clark to the post in a press release this week.
According to the release, she has served the Scotts Valley Unified School District in various positions within the business department since Nov. 17, 2003, when she was hired as the business technician. After four years, she was promoted to accountant, and promoted again to be the district’s director of business services on June 1, 2008, where she served until her most recent appointment.
During that tenure, Clark had direct experience with budget preparation and maintenance; benefit accounting; payroll; accounts payable and receivable; state and federal government reporting; and audit management.
Prior to her employment with Scotts Valley Unified, Clark served in various business management positions. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Arizona University.
Superintendent Weaver also credited Clark with having an approachable style, an impeccable work ethic and transparency in her practices.
