Last Saturday on Nov. 29, The Scotts Valley High School girls’ folkstyle wrestling team won the Newark Memorial Cougar Girl’s Tournament.
The tournament took place at Newark Memorial High School where the girls weighed in around 6 or 7 a.m. and proceeded to wrestle until approximately 4 p.m.
With 77 points, the Scotts Valley High School girls’ team placed first, hwile Cupertino placed second with 76 points and Deer Valley came in third with 74 points.
In the 91-125 weight division, Gabby Sandoval placed first and Olivia Hur placed fourth.  For the 114 – 125 weight division, Julia Branagan placed second, Bella Pissanetcky placed third, and Annie Heinz came in fourth.  Ashley Miller placed fifth in the 127-134 weight category, Tinja Bassman placed sixth in the 136-145 weight division, and Katherine Rossiter placed third for 145-160.
“Well we won on team points by one point, so absolutely every wrestler that went there was necessary for us to prevail,” said Coach Mike Parrish.
Although there were seven girls missing due to the busy Thanksgiving weekend, the group was still able to win as a team and placed in many categories.
“It was a good tournament and we got a bunch of matches in,” said Parrish.
