Santa Cruz County sends strike team to assist Camp Fire in...

Santa Cruz County sent a strike team on Thursday to the Camp Fire in Butte County. Five engines were sent with a leader and an assistant leader. The agencies participating are Scotts Valley, Branciforte, Santa Cruz, Central and Aptos/La Selva. The Strike Team leader is from Central and the Assistant Leader is from Aptos/La Selva. Four people are assigned to each engine.

Measure H: Santa Cruz County’s Affordable Housing Bond

The housing affordability crisis across the state has inspired several measures on the Nov. 6 ballot. A local response is Measure H, which if approved will authorize the county to issue up to $140 million in general obligation bonds, generating an estimated $8.6 million annually to fund affordable housing throughout the county. The total price tag for the principal and interest of these 35 year bonds is estimated at about $274 million-almost double the face value of the proposed bond issue.

Scotts Village Sells for $15.35 Million

 Scotts Village, a prominent neighborhood shopping center in Scotts Valley (Santa Cruz County), California, has sold to a Northern California-based real estate firm for $15.35 million. Anchored by Safeway and CVS, the shopping center comprises 121,296 square feet (sf) of retail improvements including several high-profile pad buildings occupied by Chase Bank, McDonald’s, and Taco Bell. Scotts Village was developed in 1984 on a leasehold interest.

Scotts Valley Fourth of July Parade

The City of Scotts Valley annual 4th of July parade will once again be held on Scotts Valley Drive from 3 p.m. to 4:30pm. The route will be the same as last year’s (shown on the attached map). The parade route starts at the intersection of Scotts Valley Drive and Carbonero Way, heads north towards El Pueblo Road and loops back to Carbonero Way where it ends.

Highway 9 “Slip-Out” project nearing completion

The massive “slip-out” of the mountainside underneath the northbound lane of Highway 9, just south of Brookdale, resulted in more than 16 months of a temporary traffic signal and single lane access to Boulder Creek. For regular commuters, the long-awaited completion of the repair project appears noticeably close- scheduled for September. 

Boulder Creek gets proactive on preventing traffic accidents

 A minor injury vehicle crash directly in front of the San Lorenzo Valley Water District office at Lomond Street and Highway 9 in downtown Boulder Creek the afternoon of April 4th resulted in one driver walking away from his overturned pickup, and another driver taken away in hand cuffs under suspicion of allegedly driving under the influence.  

Boys & Girls Club comes to Scotts Valley

There is a new option for parents in Scotts Valley or San Lorenzo Valley who are looking for after school programing for their children. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Cruz County (BGCSCC) is just about ready to open the new Joe and Linda Aliberti Clubhouse on Scotts Valley Drive.
