Scotts Valley High’s Mitch Ross picked the perfect day to run the race of his life. On the biggest stage, at the CIF State Cross Country Championships, and in his final race as a Falcon, held last Saturday in Fresno, the senior surprised everyone, including himself, by finishing the Division lV race in second place, and by doing so, helped Scotts Valley garner second place as a team, the best finish in school history.
Chris Anderson never envisioned watching the Central Coast Section Cross Country Championships from the sideline or missing the 2018 CIF State Meet. After all, the senior co-captain of San Lorenzo Valley’s Cross Country team was considered a favorite to reach the podium at both events this year. Likewise, Rishi Chandiramani, also a senior co-captain and inspirational leader of the Scotts Valley’s Boys team never imagined that he’d be watching his peers compete at CCS while he could only watch via FaceTime.
“Could it be? Yes it could. Something’s coming, something good…” Tony sings with a floating falsetto, played by San Lorenzo Valley High School’s very own junior, Jack Calden. His expressions illuminate center stage and he excitedly sings his centerpiece solo for the legendary musical, West Side Story.
