 Scotts Village, a prominent neighborhood shopping center in Scotts Valley (Santa Cruz County), California, has sold to a Northern California-based real estate firm for $15.35 million. Anchored by Safeway and CVS, the shopping center comprises 121,296 square feet (sf) of retail improvements including several high-profile pad buildings occupied by Chase Bank, McDonald’s, and Taco Bell. Scotts Village was developed in 1984 on a leasehold interest.

Josephine Turcot had been escorted to her coronation as Water Carnival Queen by a suite of handmaidens.  On her journey to Palo Alto to enroll in Stanford, the following September, her retinue consisted of only one lady—her Aunt Catherine.  Upon her return to Santa Cruz, Mrs. Logan plunged into a new project--helping to host the Grand Council of the Catholic Ladies’ Aid Society.

The other day I stopped by historic Gamble Gardens in Palo Alto. I had some free time before my eye appointment and Sherman, my dog, wanted to stretch his legs. You can mark time with the events in the botanical world and this garden is packed with good examples. School kids were tending the vegetable starts and beneficial-friendly flower beds. Volunteers were looking after the formal rose garden and tulip beds. Visitors like me and Sherman just wanted to take in all the early spring beauty.

The recreation room of the Boulder Creek Country Club was filled to capacity this last Wednesday with local residents eager to hear lessons learned from the Bear Fire. Local government showed up in full force for the Boulder Creek event.  CalFire Division Chief Rich Sampson, Boulder Creek Fire Chief Kevin McClish, and Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Wilson made the presentation.  Supervisor Bruce McPherson and County Planner Matt Johnson also joined in.  Joe Christy, President of Fire Safety Santa Cruz County, moderated the panel and posed questions that attendees handed in anonymously on large index cards.
