Baymonte Christian School’s first 5- and 1-kilometer fun runs took place along the streets of north Scotts Valley on Saturday, Oct. 9. About 240 runners finished the 5k, and 69 children finished the 1k.
Stephen Boesch, 43, took first place in the 5-kilometer run in 18 minutes, 56 seconds, well ahead of Felton’s Larry Bartholomew, 54, who finished in 19:14. Thirteen-year-old Andrew Walgren was third in 19:24. The 3.1-mile race course took runners along Green Hills Road before it turned and took runners back to Baymonte’s campus.
In the kids’ fun run, 9-year-old Kylie Clouse took first in 4:22, followed by Kiana Gilbert, 9, in 4:23 and Angelina Cortes, 8, in 4:28. The course was two laps around Baymonte’s dirt track.
A carnival and raffle followed the races as Baymonte’s central fundraiser for the year.
Organizers said the 5-kilometer race may expand to a full-length 10k next year.
