A telethon to support high school sports and music programs in Santa Cruz County netted more than $56,000 in pledges last week.
The telethon was on community television with an aim to help during dire financial times for public schools in California.
Students from the San Lorenzo Valley High School band, pop/rock ensemble, cheerleaders and the choir performed for the event. Scotts Valley High drama students performed scenes from a recent musical at the high school.
As of Press-Banner press time, the pledges had not been fully counted, but SLV and Scotts Valley High were slated for significant portions of the pledges.
Former Scotts Valley High Principal Ken Thomas organized the telethon.
