This is simply to thank all of the people who have supported and enjoyed reading the Press-Banner while I have been its editor. When I first stepped into that role, I invited people to stop by the office and get acquainted and to tell me what you like about the paper – and many of you did.
You volunteered ideas about how our paper could be improved and many of these ideas were implemented. As a result, more elected officials and community leaders keep us informed about key legislation and events that impact our lives in Santa Cruz County. The Press-Banner is rich with Op-ed material on a variety of subjects.
We also have increased the number of columnists who share the kind of information that enriches our lives. They keep us informed and entertained. Additionally, the volunteer organizations who and run the fund raising events have kept us aware of the needy in our community and educated us about what the community can do to help. New businesses have been introduced as they join the business community that provides our goods and services. We also are made aware of what our first responders, such as local law enforcement and fire departments, do to protect us and reduce crime in our area. We have been appalled at the crime discovered, and happy to know it has been investigated and dealt with.
We truly have an amazing group of community leaders who reach out to the to improve the quality of life for our residents. I am grateful and humbled to have worked with you. I have also learned from our volunteer community reporters that keep us informed about what is happening in their communities. We have investigated and reported accordingly.
As I leave the Press-Banner, Michael Langley will be the interim editor. He is also the editor of the Tracy Press but he will be in Scotts Valley a few days per week and will assist you while a new editor is recruited. As for me, I will see many of you around town.
