Three of the five Scotts Valley Little League All-Star teams remain undefeated in District 39 play and are heading toward their respective tournament finals. Those three teams have each run up lopsided cumulative victory margins along the way. The 7- and 8-year-olds have outscored their opponents 55-13 during their three wins, the 10-year-olds run differential is 44-2 with a 3-0 record, and the 10- and 11-year-olds have rolled up a 75-8 split en route to their 4-0 mark.
The SLV 8- and 9-year-olds are undefeated and the 11- and 12-year-olds are 3-1.
7- and 8-year-old division
Scotts Valley 18, Watsonville American 4
Scotts Valley was led by Philip Garrison with two triples and three RBIs, Soren Burns with a 2-for-2 day with two runs scored, Casey Collins with a single, two walks and three runs, Nick Endres with a double, single and a run, and Shane Burns with a single and a run.
Scotts Valley 13, San Juan Aromas 3
Kyle Smith, Jordan Olhava and Angelo Segretto each had 1-for-2 days, while Dillon Danner and Philip Garrison each pitched two innings and both had two hits apiece at the plate. Bryce Clark, Bryce Gunderson and Nico Smith all scored runs for Scotts Valley.
Scotts Valley 24, SLV 9
The game was close until the top of the sixth inning and was led by a home run from Dillon Danner and triples from Shane Burns, Bryce Clark and Philip Garrison. Scotts Valley plays for top spot in the tournament with a win Wednesday night.
8- and 9-year-old division
Scotts Valley 13, Pajaro Valley 1
Scotts Valley capitalized on 10 walks to score 13 runs, and starting pitcher Garrett Fisher struck out eight and walked none over four frames, throwing 41 of his 56 pitches for strikes. Fisher and Vincent Beraut each drove in two runs with singles, and Zach Snider and Zach Washburn each had one-run singles. Henry Danner and Snider each scored twice, and Garrett Hormel had two RBIs.
9- and 10- year-old division
Scotts Valley 10, Live Oak 0 four innings)
Kyle Raymond nearly tossed a perfect four-inning game. Going into the final frame, he had only six pitches left before he hit his pitch count limit of 50 but had to leave with two outs and a 1-2 count before he was relieved by Jack Kastner, who closed out the inning. Mitchell Gaspar went 2-for-3 with a single and a walk off double to score two runs and win the game. Carson Spence had two hits and two RBIs, Kastner had a two-run single, and Kyle Raymond had one single, walk and five stolen bases.
10- and 11-year-old division
Scotts Valley has received strong pitching from Travis Lane, Gregory Neiger, Trevor Ponos, Jake Utic and Robert Riemer, who have combined for 33 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched while recording an ERA under 1.00. The offense has been led by Ponos, Lane, Utic, Riemer and Georgia Parsons, with those five sporting a combined batting average of .624. Parsons leads the team in extra base hits, while Neiger logged a grand slam. Cooper Rains, Eric Beraut, Andrew Christensen and Seth O’Brien have each had multi-hit games in the tournament so far.
San Lorenzo Valley Little League
Two San Lorenzo Valley Little League All-Star teams are still chugging along in their tournaments, while three have been eliminated from the double-elimination tournament as of press time Wednesday, July 7.
The San Lorenzo Valley 8- and 9-year-old all-stars and the 11- and 12-year-old all-stars will play Thursday, July 8, to determine if they will move on in the tournament.
The 8- and 9- year-olds are 4-0 in pool play, having defeated Santa Cruz American, Scotts Valley and Pajaro Valley twice. They will play Aptos on Thursday.
The 11- and 12-year-olds are 3-1 in pool play and will advanced to the semifinal game Thursday.
The 7- and 8-year-olds went 2-for-2 in the tournament, while the 9- and 10-year-olds went 0-4 and the 10- and 11-year-olds finished 1-3 after defeating Watsonville American, 11-1.
