The Central Coast Section will be holding the qualifying track meet this weekend on Saturday May 21, at Gilroy High school. Athletes from the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League will be representing the county and a healthy portion of those will be from the Valleys.
Boys:
Scotts Valley will send pole vaulter Alex Benco who won league with a vault of 13 feet. High jumper Evan Hilton also won league clearing six feet even.
San Lorenzo Valley boys will be represented by a number of distance runners. Junior Jonny Cooper will run in the 400 meters. Sophomore phenom Cody Johnson who has the thirteenth fastest time in the nation among sophomores in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.06 will be competing in both the 800 and 1600, teammates Nick Hicks (1600/3200 meters) and Landis MacMillan (3200 meters) both qualified in their respective events.
Sophomore Lucas Sinnott qualified in the pole vault.
Girls:
Four runners from Scotts Valley qualified for the CCS meet.
Ranae Malone will run the 300 meter hurdles. Alex Kalinowski will compete in the 100 meter hurdles. Distance runner, Vanessa Fraser, will race in the 3200 meters, and Abby Utic will run the 1600 meters.
The SLV girls will be represented by Cameron Kellogg in the shot put and the discus, while fellow field competitor Amanda Lackides will be pole vaulting.
Distance runners Anna Maxwell (the nations fastest female freshman 1600 runner), Claire MacMillan, Abby Sherman, and Claire Macmillan all have top competitor times in the section and should advance to the finals on Saturday, May 27 at Gilroy High.
