The Trouble 16-and-under softball team played in the Runnin’ Rebels and Las Vegas tournaments and compiled a record of 9-4. Last weekend, Trouble 16A finished ninth at the Norcal National Qualifiers, earning a berth to move on to the 16A regionals in Las Vegas.
Players from varsity softball programs at SLV, Aptos, Soquel, Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz and Saint Francis high schools combine to make up the Trouble 16s.
The team will host a car wash and yard sale fundraiser for Nationals from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Mountain Mechanics, 13265 Big Basin Way, in Boulder Creek.
12s win tournament
The 12U Scotts Valley Trouble fast pitch team started the season with a 7-6 win over The Hollister Heat on Friday, June 17, then suffered a tough 6-5 loss to the Cabrillo Crushers, followed by a dramatic 16-10 win over The Real Renegades from Milpitas. The team scored 12 runs in the top of the last inning to come back from being down 10-4.
Sunday morning, they beat The Spirit of Morgan Hill, 11-4.
The Trouble defeated the Crushers in a rematch and then beat the Half Moon Bay Waves, 8-7, to repeat as tournament champions.
10s finish fourth
Pitcher Nicole Neumann had six strikeouts against the San Jose Quicksilver in recent action. Saturday morning, it was the Hollister Heat, and the girls came out swinging and fought to a 6-6 tie.
The next game was another hard-fought battle against the Pleasanton Phantoms. With more solid hitting, the young team battled to a nine-run tie as time expired.
The team’s first game Sunday was a rematch against the Phantoms, but the Trouble fell and finished tied for fourth in the tournament.
