The company that owns the Felton site where the Trout Farm Inn burned to the ground said this week it will seek building permits to rebuild the restaurant this year.
Russell Gross, a Scotts Valley realtor who is one of the principals in Caye Properties, owner of the landmark restaurant in Felton, said he expects approval of the plans by Santa Cruz County planners to take at least four to six weeks..
The Trout Farm Inn burned to the ground a little over a year ago.
The popular swimming pool next to the restaurant was not damaged in the fire and “is in perfect condition,” Gross said. It has been closed since the fire.
Four cabins also owned by Caye Properties below the pool along Zayante Creek are also in good shape and need no repairs, he said.
“It’s great – it’s really exciting,” he said. He said his company intends to find someone to lease the restaurant, and that his firm still owns the restaurant name.
Caye Properties is a limited liability company formed in 2004 to buy the Trout Farm Inn and related properties.
After the fire, Gross said, “The members of Caye Properties are longtime friends with deep roots in the San Lorenzo Valley,” and said they were committed to rebuilding the Trout Farm Inn and “to seeing familes enjoying the pool, sharing meals and making new memories.”
