Valley Churches short on turkeys, food for holidays

With less than two weeks until Thanksgiving Day, Valley Churches United Missions is short on turkeys and other food items needed for the organizations annual giveaway to those in need.
On Monday afternoon, operations director Linda Lovelace sent a plea for food items or gift cards to help supply local families with a Thanksgiving dinner. Lovelace noted the organization has less than two dozen turkeys in the freezer, yet there are 135 households signed up for Thanksgiving assistance, with the number expected to increase as the holiday nears.
Valley Churches will hold food drives in front of Safeway stores in Scotts Valley, 253 Mount Hermon Road, and Felton, 6255 Graham Hill Road from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Additionally, donations may be dropped at the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce, 360 Kings Village Road, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week, or seven days a week at the Valley Churches United Holiday Boutique, 9400 Highway 9 in Ben Lomond or the Ben Lomond Gas Station.
Besides turkeys, donations of large cans of yam, canned fruit, tuna, cranberry sauce, fresh or boxed potatoes, boxes of rice dinner, boxes of pasta dinners, stuffing mix, canned vegetables, canned soups and desert items are sought.
