Realtor appointed to county housing commission
Realtor Michael Lussier of Brookdale was appointed by Santa Cruz County Supervisor Mark Stone to the County Housing Advisory Commission.
Lussier has been a realtor in the county the past 30 years and also served on the Governmental Relations Committee of the Santa Cruz Association of Realtors. He was also a board member of the Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center.
Seamen complete basic training
Navy seaman apprentice Natalie Newell, the daughter of Kathy Newell of Los Gatos and Dave Newell of Felton, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.
Newell completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was placed on physical fitness during the eight-week training.
Newell is a 2005 graduate of Scotts Valley High School.
Navy seaman apprentice John Nielsen, a 2009 graduate of San Lorenzo Valley High School, also completed U.S. Navy basic training in Great Lakes.
Nielsen is the son of Maria Nielsen of Scotts Valley and Leif Nielsen of Boulder Creek.
Student earns degree
Sara Coil of Ben Lomond was awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in business administration from Kaplan University. Coil’s accomplishment was celebrated during a graduation ceremony Aug. 7 in Chicago. She was part of the summer 2010 graduating class, which included more than 4,200 students.
