SLV alumna named to dean’s list
San Lorenzo Valley High graduate Caitlin Powell was named to the dean’s list at Scripps College in Claremont for the fall 2010 semester. Powell achieved at least an A-minus GPA in her first semester at the all-women’s college.
High school seniors recognized as good citizens
Melissa Kumar of Scotts Valley High School and Jenny Pace of San Lorenzo Valley High School have been recognized by their schools and the Santa Cruz Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution as Good Citizens. The DAR has 3,000 chapters across the nation and awards scholarships to high school seniors.
Felton resident named medical coordinator
Katie LeBaron, a senior health educator with the county’s Health Services Agency, has been selected as coordinator for the Santa Cruz County Medical Reserve Corps.
The MRC coordinates trained health professionals and support personnel in the event of a medical disaster.
LeBaron succeeds David McNutt, who has been volunteer coordinator since 2007. LeBaron has 20 years of public health and safety experience.
Felton artist featured at government center
Felton glass artist April Zilber is one of five local artists taking part in an exhibit at the Santa Cruz County Government Center.
Zilber’s artwork — depicting trees, giant kelp, flowers and other organic motifs in fused glass panels — will be shown through March at 701 Ocean St. on the first and fifth floors.
