Former principal appointed to commission
Retired Brook Knoll Elementary School Principal Kathy Frandel has been appointed to the Santa Cruz First 5 Commission by Santa Cruz County Supervisor Mark Stone. The commission helps children in the county succeed in school and life.
Soldier honored with medical badge
Joshua King, a 1998 San Lorenzo Valley High graduate, has been awarded the Army Combat Medical Badge. The badge is awarded for providing battleground medical support to an infantry unit engaged in combat.
King, a health care specialist with two years of military service, is assigned to the 101st Sustainment Brigade at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan.
He is the son of Norman Hatch of Boulder.
Seaman finishes training
Coast guard seaman Sabrina Augason, a 2010 Scotts Valley High School graduate, recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.
She completed eight weeks of training in academics, water safety, seamanship skills, physical fitness, firefighting, marksmanship and other skills.
She is the daughter of Diane Augason of Scotts Valley.
Valley student makes dean’s list
Rachel Bickert, of Ben Lomond, was among more than 170 students from Whittier College who made the Fall 2010 Dean’s List.
Honorees earned a 3.7 GPA or better during the fall term.
