BL resident makes dean’s list
Ben Lomond’s Hannah Pfister was named to the 2010 fall semester dean’s list at Simmons College in Boston. Pfister, an English major, received a 3.5 grade-point average or higher during the term.
Students win art contest
Claire Corneau-Saiki, a fourth-grader at Baymonte Christian School in Scotts Valley, and Scarlett West, a first-grader at Bonny Doon Union Elementary School, were named winners in the National Agriculture Day Poster Contest put on by Agri-Culture and the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau.
Corneau-Saiki was awarded second place in the county and West, an honorable mention in the contest to design a poster to the theme: “Grown in Santa Cruz County and the Pajaro Valley.”
Twins win awards from university
In October 2010, Julie and Stephanie Reno of Scotts Valley were honored at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted children held by Johns Hopkins University. Both excelled on a rigorous test given to second- through eighth-graders by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. Julie, a student at Scotts Valley Middle School, and Stephanie, a student at Gateway School, performed well on the test.
Locals make Azusa Pacific dean’s list
Scotts Valley’s Rachel Fou, an English major, and Boulder Creek’s Shannon Oliphant, a nursing student, both earned recognition on the Azusa Pacific University dean’s list for the fall semester in 2010. They both earned a GPA of 3.5 or better.
