As a sixth-grader in 2008-09, Baymonte Christian School’s Lexi Stevens was named an All-American Scholar At-Large winner.
Lexi, 12, the daughter of Jack and Erika Stevens of Scotts Valley, will appear in the All-American Scholar Official Yearbook. The U.S. Achievement Academy, which compiles the yearbook, recognizes less than 10 percent of students nationwide. Lexi will attend Scotts Valley Middle School in the fall.
Residents slated for walkathon
Scotts Valley residents Cindy Pressley and Jannea Varni are scheduled to walk in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s 50-mile challenge from Carlsbad to San Diego Sept. 11 to 13.
Varni, who was recently diagnosed with MS, and her best friend, Pressley, have trained for the walk since April.
In these tough economic times, the duo is having difficulty raising the $2,500 each they committed to donating toward battling the disease.
Residents may support Pressley and Varni by visiting www.mymschallenge.com.
Pressley is the daughter of Larry Palmer, the former owner of the Shell Gas station in Scotts Valley.
