Five juniors from Scotts Valley High School have met the requirements to enter the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program based on strong Preliminary SAT scores.
Andrew Brockmann, Hood Chatham, Maiya Moncino, Capella Yee and Regina Zwang are among the 50,000 highest-scoring participants of about 1.5 million test-takers in the nation.
Of those 50,000 students, about 16,000 will be named National Merit semifinalists, representing the top scorers in each state. Semifinalists will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 8,200 National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2011.
