Two teens from Felton went on a graffiti rampage that included racial slurs and profanity on private and city property in Scotts Valley last week.
Sgt. Justin Milroy of the Scotts Valley Police Department said the vandalism did not appear to be gang-related.
“It was not the work of professionals,” Milroy said. “There were some Roman numerals sprayed, but we don’t think it’s anything gang-affiliated. It was more destructive behavior than anything else.”
The teens spray-painted a vehicle on the 700 block of Whispering Pines Drive, estimated to cost $300 to clean up. Driveways of a few homes were also hit, Milroy said.
Marked city property included a stop sign on the corner of Whispering Pines Drive and Lockwood Lane, a speed sign on the 1200 block of Whispering Pines Drive and another stop sign on Whispering Pines Drive and Estrella Drive.
Some roadways in the area were also painted with 8-foot-by-4-foot mural-sized graffiti installments, Milroy said.
That damage is estimated to cost more than $400, according to police.
The high school students, a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old, were identified by other teenagers who live near the vandalism.
“We think there was a beef between some high school students,” Milroy said.
Similar graffiti, including profanity and swastikas, has been found at the skate park in Skypark, but Milroy said he does not think they are related.
