Cycling Grand Prix in SV next weekend
The first annual Scotts Valley Grand Prix bicycle race is May 15 on Scotts Valley Drive.
Admission is free to the Saturday event, and professional races start at 3:10 p.m. The start and finish line is in front of Canepa Design at 4900 Scotts Valley Drive. Part of Scotts Valley Drive will be cordoned off for the 1-mile circular race course.
There is a kids zone from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m., and races for kids between 5 and 14 years old begin at 7:20 p.m.

SLV wins volleyball title
The San Lorenzo Valley boy’s volleyball team is the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic league champion.
The team defeated Mount Madonna High School, 3-1, on April 30 to clinch its first volleyball title since 2007.
SLV won the match 25-22, 25-16, 24-26, 25-22 behind the blocking of Kyle Todd and Trevor Romele.
SLV improved to 20-6 on the season, including a 9-1 record in league, while dropping Mount Madonna to respective overall and league records of 21-10 and 8-2. The two teams split matches during the regular season.
The Cougars defeated Soquel High, 3-2, on April 29 to reach the final.
SLV and Madonna will play in the Central Coast Section tournament. Seeding and scheduling will be announced this weekend.
Santa Cruz beats Scotts Valley at bocce
The Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department bocce team defeated the Scotts Valley bocce team on April 24 at Skypark by a tally of 3-1. It was the second year in a Santa Cruz defeated Scotts Valley.
Scotts Valley baseball in first
The Scotts Valley High School baseball team took sole possession of first place in the SCCAL with a 9-6 win over Harbor High School on Tuesday, May 4.
There are three games remaining in the regular season, and the Falcons (8-1) lead Aptos (8-2) by half a game. The teams split the season series 1-1, so the Falcons can win the title outright by winning the remainder of their games.
The Falcons play Friday, May 7, at Soquel before closing the season on Tuesday, May 11, at home versus St. Francis and at San Lorenzo Valley on May 14.
