Thomas the Tank Engine, the storybook locomotive from the imaginary island of Sodor, will visit Roaring Camp Railroads for two weekends starting Friday, July 30, to give train rides to fans of his long-running PBS series, “Thomas and Friends.”
The 30-minute round-trip rides from Felton will use a portion of the Santa Cruz, Big Trees & Pacific Railway line through the redwoods. Thomas trips are scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as Aug. 6, 7 and 8.
Families also will meet Sir Topham Hatt, controller of the railway of which Thomas is part, and hear stories, view videos, shop for Thomas merchandise and visit Imagination Station for temporary tattoos, face painting, coloring and watercolor painting. A giveaway will feature the story of Thomas’ upcoming adventure, “Misty Island Rescue.” Roaring Camp will host a barbecue.
This year, Thomas is celebrating his 65th birthday. The tour, however, is in just its 15th year and will make stops in more than 45 U.S. cities. More than 1 million passengers will ride Thomas during his trip around the country.
The engine visits Roaring Camp each summer and is one of the most popular attractions at Roaring Camp.
