The San Lorenzo Valley Cougars are on a two-game winning streak heading into their Friday-night match-up with Watsonville at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at Watsonville High School.
Watsonville is 0-3 on the season after losing to Aptos High 47-32 last weekend.
The Cougars, meanwhile, dealt a resounding 36-16 victory to Andrew Hill High of San Jose, in which wide receiver Nick Gorman caught two touchdown passes and an interception return for a touchdown to lead the team to victory.
In the game, the Cougars jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead at home and never looked back. Nick Lipperd opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 74-yard touchdown run. He finished with 138 yards rushing on 18 carries.
Gorman then caught touchdown passes of five yards and 68 yards from quarterback Zach Newberry.
In the second quarter, Gorman made a leaping interception and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown to make it 28-0. Mike D’Amato recorded a safety in the third quarter, and tight end Thomas McIntosh had a 26-yard touchdown catch to cap Cougars scoring. Andrew Hill scored 16 points in the fourth quarter.
Scotts Valley
The Scotts Valley Falcons fell to 0-3 after a 28-19 loss to Kings Academy of Sunnyvale. They will look to win their final pre-league game as they host Sacred Heart Preparatory of Atherton at 2 p.m. Sept. 25. San Lorenzo Valley fell to Sacred Heart Prep 24-7 to open the season Sept. 4.
In last Saturday’s loss to Kings Academy, quarterback Alex Howard went 11 for 16 for 205 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for a 1-yard touchdown plunge. Howard’s favorite target was wide receiver Stephen Doub, who he found four times for 127 yards. Doub also had an interception on the day and has more than 100 yards receiving in all three games this season.
The Falcons went up 10-0 in the first quarter, but they couldn’t maintain their grasp on running back Amir Carlisle who rushed for 224 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. Carlisle has verbally committed to play for Stanford University next season.
