A full overnight closure of Highway 9 near Boulder Creek has been rescheduled for Monday, July 27, to allow crews more time to prepare bridge girders for installation, according to Caltrans.
The closure, which had originally been planned for the night of Thursday, July 23, will now take place from 8 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday at the Kings Creek Bridge, between Pool Drive and Primavera Road/Old County Highway.
During the closure, crews will install 100-foot-long precast concrete girders for the southbound portion of the new bridge.
A detour will be available via Highway 17, with message boards and directional signs posted in advance of the closure. Caltrans advises motorists to allow extra travel time. Nearby residents can also expect overnight construction noise while the work is underway.
Once the closure ends Tuesday morning, the existing temporary traffic signals will resume 24-hour, one-way traffic control.
The work is part of the Highway 9 San Lorenzo River and Kings Creek Bridge Replacement Project north of Boulder Creek. The project will fully replace both bridges to improve safety for motorists. Crews are currently in the first phase of construction, which involves closing the southbound lane while the southbound portions of the bridges are rebuilt.
The project includes replacement of the Kings Creek Bridge between post miles 15.41 and 15.55 and the San Lorenzo River Bridge between post miles 13.58 and 13.69.
“This is one of several full overnight closures to take place during these two bridge replacement projects. Updates will continue to be provided as these closures take place,” Caltrans said.
