Tunes for our troops
The recently-formed Santa Cruz Blue Star Moms group will host a New Year’s Day benefit concert to support local United States service members.
Cabin Fever, Blue Soulstace and the California Kingpins will perform at 8 p.m. Jan. 1 at Don Quixote’s Music Hall, 6275 Highway 9, in Felton. The full $10 entry fee will go to send care packages to troops.
Santa Cruz Blue Star Moms is a new chapter of Blue Star Mothers of America, a nonprofit that has supported troops since World War I. Felton’s Shannon Curtis is the local group’s president.

Local woman wins free yard cleanup
Connie O’Brien of Felton was the winner of a free yard cleanup from Bill Mehlenbacher of Bill’s Hauling in a raffle at the San Lorenzo Valley Senior Center at Highlands Park. Mehlenbacher, who has been hauling in the San Lorenzo Valley since 1970, set up his annual raffle at the senior center last week and O’Brien’s name was drawn.
