
Days at the museum
At the end of October, the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History hired Felton resident Liz Broughton to serve as the museum’s new administrative assistant.
Broughton, 24, graduated from San Lorenzo Valley High School in 2004, completed her undergraduate studies at University of California, Berkeley, in 2008 and was awarded her master’s degree in museology from the University of Washington in 2010.
She said her job entails
“a little bit of everything” — scheduling tours and docents, maintaining the exhibits, greeting visitors and handling ticket and gift shop sales.
“I love seeing all the kids and how excited they are about natural history,” Broughton said.
Airman graduates from training
U.S. Air Force Airman Vasudha Vyas has completed basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
Vyas completed an eight-week program that included military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
Vyas, a 2010 Harbor High School graduate, is the daughter of Nimisha Vyas of Scotts Valley and Jitendra Vyas of Santa Cruz.
Local woman named to county commission
Scotts Valley’s Marie Kagaju Laugharn was appointed to the Santa Cruz County Women’s Commission by County Supervisor Mark Stone.
Laugharn, a native of Rwanda, has worked with governments to improve economic, educational and health systems development through positions with the United Nations and nonprofit groups. She now works with her husband, Peter Laugharn, with the Firelight Foundation, a nonprofit that fights the spread of HIV in sub-Saharan Africa.
Valley grad named to dean’s list
Ben Lomond resident Taylor West was named to the fall 2010 Dean’s List at Southeast Missouri State University.
Students on the list earned at least a 3.5 GPA for the term.
