Lompico water settles for $87K with former district manager
The Lompico County Water District settled last month with former district manager Mike Eggleston in a dispute over accrued compensation.
The mediated agreement found Lompico on the hook for $87,250, to be paid over five years at a 5 percent interest rate for a total of $100,338.
“We did the best we could to get it reduced,” board member Lois Henry said.
Eggleston filed a lawsuit that claimed the district owed him $146,673.05 in deferred compensation, including retirement compensation and personal time dating back to 1999. Eggleston’s employment was terminated in early 2010, and the reason was not made public.
The settlement has the district paying $1,672.30 each month for five years.
Shoot zone questions arise
Some areas in the San Lorenzo Valley and other areas of unincorporated Santa Cruz County are declared shoot zones — legal places to discharge licensed firearms. San Lorenzo Valley Sheriff’s Sgt. Jim Ross said the sheriff’s office receives occasional calls about gunshots and questions about those zones.
Santa Cruz County Code section 8.28.30 defines the designated shoot zones and includes a map. However, Ross recommends that if people hear gunshots, they should call sheriff’s dispatchers, who should be able to define the shoot zone. Residents may also ask for someone to investigate.

The three dirtiest beaches were Seabright Beach, Main and Cowell Beach and Panther Beach.
