The two Scotts Valley Little League all-star teams playing in section tournaments bowed out this week with 1-2 records, ending their quests for a state title.
Scotts Valley 10-11s
Scotts Valley got off to a strong start in Hollister, beating Eastridge from San Jose 11-2.
Trevor Alvarez hit a grand slam, Matt Braverman hit a 3-run homer and doubled in two at bats, Tanner Spence was 3-for-3 with a walk, Jack Palmer had two doubles and Sawyer Stemm lashed two hits, including a solo homer.
In the next game, Saratoga upended Scotts Valley 12-3 despite two hits each from Palmer and Ben Christensen.
Mooreland ended the team’s run the next night, as Scotts Valley fell 14-4 in a game where Stemm had two doubles and Spence and Palmer each had one.
Scotts Valley 9-10’s
The team finished 1-2 in the tournament at Harvey West Park.
Successful season
The five 2009 Scotts Valley all-star teams boasted a combined record of 21-3 this year in district tournament play, with four of the teams winning their respective district championships.
“Winning 4-of-5 again this year was unbelievable,” league president Doug Marshall said. “We’re proud of how well all our teams did this year, but even more, we’re proud of the first-class way in which our kids play the game.”
