Cal Fire reported at 8 p.m. today that 15 percent of the Lockheed Fire is under control after burning 5,036 acres over the last two days in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Bonny Doon.
The good news is that while the Empire Grade Road remains closed to the public, people who live on that road between Felton Empire and Alba roads are allowed to return to their homes.
However, fire officials say full containment of the fire may take at least a week, and gusting winds and warmer temperatures could be a concern over the weekend.
More than 2,400 nearby residents have been evacuated since Thursday, while countless others opted to wait and see if conditions would change to put them in harm’s way.
So far, no homes have been destroyed and there have been no injuries in the fire.
