Scotts Valley 18-year-old Daniella Zuccolotto was named Miss Teen Santa Cruz and will represent the county in the Miss Teenage California pageant in Los Angeles in April.
“It’s a chance to represent my city and be a good role model,” Zuccolotto said. “And it’s a chance to have some sort of voice in the community.”
Zuccolotto, a Monte Vista Christian School graduate and Cabrillo College student, applied to be Miss Teen Santa Cruz through the mail.
Her application included her experience working at Postal Annex in Scotts Valley, her work at Santa Cruz Bible Church taking care of children, church mission trips to Denmark and Tijuana, Mexico, and her experience helping the homeless in San Francisco.
The pageant is an annual scholarship contest put on by Danfranc Productions. The winner of the California pageant receives a $10,000 scholarship and $7,000 cash.
The pageant has not had a swimsuit contest for more than 20 years — it is more about substance, according to the contest Web site.
