Middle school team off to strong start
The San Lorenzo Valley Middle School girls basketball team opened their season with two victories this week. On Wednesday, Oct. 2, the team defeated Shoreline Middle School 38-22. Jenna Francis and Veronica Johnson led the scoring with 12 and 10 points respectively. Cassidy White scored six and Chloe Sandles contributed four points and a strong rebounding game. On Monday, Sept. 30, the Panthers defeated Mission Hill Middle School 22-17 win. Hannah Sandles, Lauren Lozier and Sidney Williams led a strong defensive effort. Sierra Heikins, along with Johnson and Francis provided the offense. SLV will play twice on the road before returning home at 3:45 p.m. October 14 at the SLVMS gym.   
Falcons 2-3 in league
The Scotts Valley High School girls volleyball team is 2-3 in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League after a win over St. Francis on September 26 and a loss to Aptos on October 1.
The Falcons defeated St. Francis 26-24, 25-18, 25-13 behind 13 kills and two blocks by Amber Bothman, nine kills and two aces from Mikayla Fish and 46 assists from setter Megan Lonhart.
It was a different story against Aptos as the Falcons fell to a tough Mariner squad
25-15, 25-13, 25-14. For the Falcons, Fish and Shelby Kranich had four kills, Seryna Tapuloa, 3 with two blocks, and Amber Bothman, 3 kills. Lonhart had 16 assists and added two bocks.
The team is 5-4 overall and 2-3 in league.
Pee Wees prevail on gridiron
The Scotts Valley Police Athletic League Pee Wee team defeated West San Jose Storm 16-0 on Saturday, Sept. 28. The team was led by a dominating power running game by running backs Zavier Hill-Kemp, Christian Carney and JD Devlin. The defense led by Dillon Danner and Sky Battaroff stopped the Storm’s passing attack, including twice in the red zone to preserve the shut out.
